Union County Library System strives to provide for its patrons
  •        access to library materials
  •        journals, documents and books that are complete and unmarked
  •        surroundings and library collections free from the problems caused by food, beverages,
and other damaging substances
  •        a library environment suitable for reading, research and study


In order to ensure that all those using the library may enjoy the library’s services, please follow and
respect the following rules:
  •        No eating or drinking except in designated areas (kitchen and meeting room).
  •        No smoking or smokeless tobacco in the building. Please respect others by only smoking
or using tobacco products outdoors away from building entrances and exits.
  •        Only certified guide/assist animals are permitted.
  •        Please do not talk loudly, make excessive noise or engage in other disruptive behavior.
  •        No solicitation or distribution of non-library materials.
  •        Please do not misuse the restroom (i.e., using as a laundry or a bathing facility).
  •        Bicycle, tricycles, skateboards, roller blades, scooters or skates are not permitted in the
library.
  •        No sleeping or lying in the floor.
  •        Patrons whose bodily hygiene is so offensive so as to constitute a nuisance to other
patrons or staff shall be required to leave the building.
  •        Parents are responsible for the safety and well-being of children left on library property.  
Children under 8 must be attended by an adult.
  •        The library is not responsible for personal belongings left in or on library property.


The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:
  •        Being in possession of and/or under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
  •        Removing or attempting to remove library materials, equipment or property without proper
checkout or other official library authorization.
  •        Concealing library materials in the Library for the exclusive use of an individual or group.
  •        Mutilating library materials by marking, underlining, removing pages or portions of pages,
removing binding, removing electronic theft devices, using post-its and paper clips or in any other
way damaging or defacing library materials.
  •        Being in unauthorized areas of the library, remaining in the library after closing or when
requested to leave during emergency situations or when not abiding by The Library's Conduct
Policy.
  •        Opening emergency exits except in emergency situations.
  •        Parking wheeled vehicles in unauthorized areas outside or inside the library.
  •        Vandalizing or defacing the library building, furniture or equipment.
  •        Maliciously accessing, altering, deleting, damaging or destroying any computer system,
network computer program or data.
  •        Causing a disturbance or engaging in any behavior which interferes with library activities.


  Proscribed behavior includes (but is not limited to) verbal abuse, threats of violence, sexual
harassment, or use of foul language to harass any person.
  •        Roller blading, skateboarding or skating on library property.
  •        Carrying weapons in the library or on library property unless authorized by law.


Library privileges may be limited or withdrawn for the following reasons:
  •        Damaging library property
  •        Stealing library materials
  •        Threatening or physically harming staff or users
  •        Abuse of borrowing privileges
  •        Disregard for library policies

Additional consequences:
  Any patron who commits or attempts to commit any of the offenses listed above -- or any other
behaviors illegal under the laws of the state or federal government -- is subject to sanctions,
including
  •        being asked to leave library premises;
  •        being reported to the police; and
  •        legal prosecution.

  All bags and other articles are subject to inspection by security and other authorized personnel.
This is intended to discourage theft of materials. The Library reserves the right to limit the size and
number of items brought into the Library.
